To retrieve his magic pearl that was stolen by a friend in 1865, a thousand-year-old mermaid prince Wu Julan comes back to the human world in twenty-first century; he visits a small island and lives with a girl Shen Luo who is the offspring of that thief.

Violet's granddaughter Wu Liangliang shows up to play Wu Julan's psychiatrist, and helps to reveal the truth of Shen Luo's grandpa's death.

Zhou Buwen incidentally finds out the secrets of Anzou and Wu Julan.

Wu Julan presents his talent in fishing and sashimi cutting, and helps Sheng Luo to pay off her debt.

Shen Luo falls from a cliff and is thrown into the sea. To save her, Wu Julan discovers that her body shines in the waters and is surrounded by fishes, which means that his magic pearl is inside Shen Luo's body.

Violet tells Wu Julan that the only way to take back his magic pearl form Shen Luo's body is to have her true love's kiss. Thus Liangliang decides to help Wu Julan to run after Shen Luo.

Liangliang asks Jian Yisheng to help Wu Julan chasing Shen Luo. However, Liangliang incidentally finds out that Shen Luo may have been dead in her childhood accident, and the magic pearl is sustaining her life.

Zhou Buyan, who is jealous of Buwen's love toward Shen Luo, kidnap and chain her inside a container, in which the rising tides almost drown Shen Luo until Wu Julan saves her in time.

After the incident, Wu Julan tries to teach Shen Luo how to swim, but Shen Luo is extremely afraid of water, and tells him that she was drowned and once declared of death in her childhood. Wu Julan learns the truth, and begins to turn her down because by kissing her will lead to her death.

Shen Luo notices her abnormal behaviors and feelings toward Wu Julan and talks to Jian Yisheng, who diagnosed that she has completely fallen in love with Wu Julan.

Zhou Buwen tells Shen Luo that Wu Julan is not a human being.

Wu Julan tells Shen Luo of his true identity and the obstacle, i.e., time, of their relationship. Shen Luo struggles for the fact that she will grow old but Wu will remains immortal.

A journalist Michelle from New York visits the island, and tries to approach Wu Julan by declaring that she is the reincarnation of Wu Julan's lover back in 1865.

Michelle tells Wu Julan that she is diagnosed with a brain tumor and dying, and acquires his magic pearl to save her life.

Violet invites Shen Luo to New York by saying that her mysterious millionaire boss is interested in Wu Julan's cuisine.

Violet reveals that the identity of Wu Julan at the ball.

Anzuo beguiles Wu Liangliang of her trust, and has Violet to attend his father 's funeral, which brings Wu Julan into a crisis.

Shen Luo saves Wu Julan's life in time. Violet spills out to her the truth that Wu Julan will leave in a month. The heartbroken Shen Luo returns the island alone.

Wu Julan cannot forgets Shen Luo, and go back eyeing her surreptitiously.

As Anzuo gets to know that secret pearl is inside Shen Luo's body to keep her alive, he and Zhou Buwen plans to kidnap her.

Wu Julan raises high waves to defeat Anzuo, and kisses his princess to bring her back to life.

Knowing the fact that Wu Julan is dying, Shen Luo purposes to Wu Julan.

Zhou Buwen poisons Wu Julan in the wedding ceremony and forces him to transform in front of the guests and villagers.

Zhou Buwen plots a frame-up and accuses Wu Julan of murder, but the heartbroken Zhou Buyan exposes his lies.

Violet determines to retain Wu Julan's life, regardless of Wu's own will and Shen Luo's life.

Wu Julan and Shen Luo spend their last day as if an ordinary couple, and go on a journey to destiny.
